Make sure your sound card is not disabled in the BIOS

less chance of sound card been disabled in BIOS - as his audio drivers are listed properly.. Mark pls give exact name of application which says that - e.g.- Media Player or Sonic and then you can try downloading the latest patch from their respective website

I have recently bought a new Sony VAIO (Laptop) VGN-FE41E. After I expericenced some windows problems I have upgraded the system software (Windows Vista Home Premium OEMAct). Then my computer fell silent. When I hover over the sound icon next to the clock. (bottom right hand corner) I get the message "No Audio Output Device is installed." Before I upgraded my Vista the device worked properly-previously I was using the same system software.
To solve the problem I have tried the following: 1- In the control panel> Harware and sound > sound, it is indicated that “No audio devices are installed” 2- In the control panel> Device manager, under Sound, video and game conrollers I have found SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec. I have tried to update the driver of this device by right clicking. I was notified that “Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date” 3- Afterwards I disabled and enabled the device. It did not solve the problem. 4- Afterwards I uninstalled the device and reinsalled it again in Device manager. It did not work. 5- I also visited the driver databse website ( http://www.driversdb.com/device.php?id=73047 ) no driver is offered for this product for windows Vista (For other system software they do). 6- VAIO website does also not offer drivers for this product. Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Recommended: Free Performance Scan! - Free System Scan! - Free Driver Scanner! |

Thank you very much Mark,
I had already visited that link before. My impression is that, that table is prepared for those who upgrade their system from XP to Vista. The problem is that my original system software was also Vista. Since I did not receive system recovey CDs with my Laptop but a windows Vista Upgrade DVD, I used this to reinstal my systrem software. The problem ocurred thereafter. Since my original software was Vista the table at the link you sent to me does not include my VAIO model. Moreover I Have read this announcement today... So the process is :
Select "Control Panel" from the Start button menu Select "Uninstall a program" Select "SigmaTel Audio" and click on "Uninstall". If "SigmaTel Audio" does not appear on this dialog, then go to the Alternative method section. Select OK to confirm removing the previous SigmaTel Audio software. The following dialog will appear while the software is being removed. This will uninstall the previous SigmaTel audio device driver from your system. You can now install an updated driver or reinstall the previously working driver. Alternative Method: Select "Control Panel" from the Start button menu Select "Hardware and Sound" on the Control Panel. Select "Device Manager" on the Hardware and Sound dialog. Click on the plus sign (+) next to "Sound, video and game controllers" to display "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC". Right-click on "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC" and select "Uninstall" Be sure to check the "Delete the driver software for this device" checkbox, then select OK. This will uninstall the previous SigmaTel audio device driver from your system. You can now install an updated driver or reinstall the previously working driver. Your driver is ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/OS/VistaUpgra...86_Notebook.zip Alternative Drivers can be found here for Sony Desktops and Notebooks http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/s...N-FE&m=2547 Just run setup from downloaded folder to install -------------------- Recommended: Free Performance Scan! - Free System Scan! - Free Driver Scanner! |

Thank you very much Mark,
Unfortunately I caanot give you feedback about wether the solution indeed solves the problem since I was already able to solve the problem by rolling back to the preinstalled factory state by using Vaio system recovery tool.
Your driver is ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/OS/VistaUpgra...86_Notebook.zip Alternative Drivers can be found here for Sony Desktops and Notebooks http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/s...N-FE&m=2547 Just run setup from downloaded folder to install Recommended: Free Performance Scan! - Free System Scan! - Free Driver Scanner! |

Hi, After upgrading from windows vista home premium to vista ultimate i have lost the sound! My notebook(dellE1505) just showing that there is no audio output device installed. I installed the latest Sigmatel driver (which was already installed) did not help. Does anyone know what can i do? I already sent an email to the dell support but they didn't answer!!! hey guys, well i also had the same problem. i have the inspiron 6400, everything was working great and one day, the sound just died. the computer was still under warrenty so, as told by a dell tech, i sent it in to get the mobo fixed. this was not the problem as i would soon find out. the hardware is fine, its software, so i narrowed that down. i have tried uninstalling the driver many time, i have tried all sorts of things, and nothing has worked. when i scroll over the little speaker picture next to the battery icon (it was a red x on it btw), it says the audio service is not running. mes it allows me to select the open volume mixer option when i right click, and when i do i get the "no audio device installed". im really getting very mad because i have done everything to try to fix it.
i was told reinstalling vista would do the trick, and well its looking like its my only choice. the only real problem i ahve is that im extremely lazy and extremely anal about getting my computer to how i like it. i have all my settings to my liking, all my backgrounds and all my mozilla internet options set, my mouse speed, the littlest things i care about. when you install vista again, your computer goes back to how it was from when i recived it. but i hear that you can back up the computer so that after you reinstall vista, you back everything to your computer again. not just files, i mean like everything, like windows vista premium and ultimate have complete pc backups that "Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore is a comprehensive, image-based backup tool that will help you out of a tight spot if you need to recover your entire system." unfortionatly i have home basic... so im outa luck there. but i do have a 500 gb hard drive with plenty of room. so what i really think i need is for someone to tell me how to do this complete pc backup that vista premium and ultimate can do, but manually to a external hard drive, and then how to send it back into the computer. thanks! *** here's the e-mail I just sent the tech guy at my workplace ***
See http://www.crn.com/software/207500472. This just happened to me (I listened to the automatic Windows Update and installed this optional update) - and I need to use my computer's audio to listen to watch and listen to [censored] DVDs for the [censored] project. Vista people, if they haven't already got this update, really want to avoid getting it. It makes my computer unable to play audio anymore; even though device manager sees my audio hardware, Vista tells me down by the clock that "No Audio Output Device is installed". And my computer's PC speaker beeps loudly every time a dialog box pops. It's driving me crazy (and, I suspect, those around me). I found a Web site (http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general&tid=acac685a-fd01-4bb1-ac64-da14dbd1c35a&cat=&lang=&cr=&sloc=&p=1) where Microsoft recommended this RealTek driver (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false) to fix it. I tried it, but it didn't work. However, I just got audio working again. Here's how: 1. Go to to "Control Panel > System" (WindowsKey+Pause|Break) 2. Click on "Device Manager" 3. Open the tree "Sound, video and game controllers" 4. Right-click on the audio device and choose "Properties" 5. Select the "Driver" tab 6. Click on the "Update Driver..." button 7. Choose the bottom button: "Browse my computer for driver software" 8. Choose the button _below_ the browse field: "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" 9. Choose the driver "High Definition Audio Device" (NOT "IDT High Definition Audio Codec") 10. Click "Next" 11. Click "Yes" 12. Wait for the original Vista driver to be reinstalled 13. Click "Close" I hope no one else runs into this, but this fix worked for me. It doesn’t even need a reboot. *** note that you may want to uninstall your old drivers beforehand - I don't know; a reboot may be necessary on some machines *** This post has been edited by troosevelt_26: May 5 2008, 06:30 PM Recommended: Free Performance Scan! - Free System Scan! - Free Driver Scanner! |
